James M. DesJardins holds a B.M. from SUNY College at Buffalo and a M.M. from SUNY College at Fredonia. He has also earned specialized certifications from the University of St. Thomas and from SUNY Buffalo, in Orff-Schulwerk and Music Learning Theory, respectively. He is in his 14th year of teaching music in the Frontier CSD, and he is a registered Music Together teacher.
Mr. DesJardins is highly involved in Western New York’s music education community. He has served as a board member for the Western New York Orff-Schulwerk Association and currently Classroom Music Co-Chair for the Erie County Music Educators Association. He has conducted many honors choruses throughout the East Coast. He has presented workshops for various AOSA chapters, at the ECMEA Classroom Music Festival, ECMEA Professional Development Conference, at the NYSSMA Winter and Summer conferences, and at the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association International Conference. He has guest lectured at SUNY Fredonia. And he was the 2017 recipient of the ECMEA/Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Award for Excellence in Music Education.
Mr. DesJardins remains active in many creative endeavors. He is a published composer/arranger with Carl Fischer Music and Boosey and Hawkes. He has served as composer in residence for the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus. He has been a church musician and soloist for over three decades. He offers music resources at ElementaryMusicTeacher.com. And he enjoys exploring his city with his wife, Julienne, and their son, Luke.
